FAQs

Do I need my own equipment?

We provide equipment for new fencers. However, frequent fencers are expected to purchase their own gear. If you continue using club equipment regularly, a rental fee may apply.

Where can I purchase fencing equipment?

Duel Fencing offers equipment for purchase on site. Additionally, the following websites are excellent sources for new gear. If you need help with sizing or deciding what to buy, feel free to ask us!

Which weapon is right for me?

Fencers are free to choose which weapon they’d like to pursue. However, if you’re unsure, we recommend starting with foil, as it shares rules with saber and techniques with épée. Once new fencers have learned the basics of foil, they can continue with it or transition to another weapon.

What ages can participate in fencing?

We offer classes for kids, teens, and adults. Children should be at least 8 years old to start fencing. Contact us to find the best class for your age and skill level!

Why does épée only meet once a week?"

Currently, our épée community primarily gathers for open fencing on Wednesdays. While most of our younger fencers train in foil or sabre, épée students are still welcome to attend regular class times for footwork, conditioning, and possible lessons. Additionally, private lessons with Coach Andrii can be scheduled during the week. As interest in épée grows, we look forward to expanding training opportunities!
